Raised in a wealthy, entrepreneurial family that had their hand in everything from real estate development to restaurants, hotels, recreational developments, and even coal mining, it would seem that this young girl had the crème de la crème of life; however, appearances are not always what they seem. From an early age, Pastor Dawn endured sexual abuse from a trusted family friend that continued for years, which ultimately drove her into depression, bulimia, tics, self-mutilation, and food addiction. Later, when she was pregnant with her first-born, Pastor Dawn battled major panic attacks and mental illness, followed by continued self-destructive behavior, for years.

The entire time she was enduring all of this torment, Pastor Dawn loved Jesus with all of her heart and faithfully attended church, but was totally powerless to confront and overcome any of these major problems in her life. Her saving grace was that she knew there was more to the Word than what she had been experiencing! It was through her search for the heart of God that she became spirit-filled, and that is where her healing process began. God taught Pastor Dawn some awesome principles that have allowed Him to heal the hurts of her past.

He also revealed to her that rather than being defined by those old wounds, she was to be defined by her Creator’s definition of who He had made her to be. Her life has been a journey that has continuously revealed the depths of His love and the awesome transforming power that He has made available to her!

Psalm 51:10 says, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” These are the bedrock scriptures that we can lean on, depend on, and expect to see manifested in our lives as we pursue the heart of God!
